The Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) is a not-for-profit voluntary organization representing all of Zimbabwe’s 32 urban local authorities. UCAZ turns 100 years this year, having been established in 1923 as a forum of urban local authorities. To mark this milestone in the history of local government in Zimbabwe, UCAZ is celebrating the centenary with a number of activities. The celebrations are being held under the theme “UCAZ @100 Celebrating Resilience and Excellence”.

The celebrations were successfully launched in Bulawayo on the 29th of April 2023. The main and final celebrations will take place in Mutare on the 30th of June 2023. Several activities have been lined up for the main festivities. These include a procession at the City of Mutare Civic Centre, a golf tournament, soccer and netball matches, exhibitions, and an awards dinner at a local hotel in the evening. As we celebrate, we would like to remember the underprivileged. Proceeds from the golf tournament will be channeled towards charity. The City of Mutare will identify the most needy children’s or old people’s homes as beneficiaries.

Mayors, Councillors, Town Clerks and Town Secretaries, senior council and government officials, and captains of industry and commerce will attend the event. Local residents and ratepayers’ associations and other civil society organizations have also been invited. Local government associations from the region and abroad will be represented. The Minister of Local Government and Public Works is expected to be the Guest of Honour.

UCAZ invites all stakeholders to join us in celebrating our centenary.
