All roads lead to Mutare where on Friday the 30th of June the Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) is celebrating its 100th year anniversary. The theme of the celebrations is UCAZ @100, celebrating Excellence and Resilience. Mayors, councillors, senior government officials, Town Clerks, and senior council officials as well as representatives of industry and commerce will be attending the celebrations which were launched in Bulawayo during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair week.

UCAZ was established in 1923 as a loose forum of municipalities with the purpose of discussing matters of common concern. The Association was formally constituted in 1940 and a permanent secretariat was established. The founding members of UCAZ are the Cities of Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Kadoma, Mutare, Masvingo and the Municipality of Bindura and Mashava.

Sporting activities have been lined up for the day. They include a golf tournament at the Hillside Golf Club, soccer match at Sakubva Stadium and netball challenge match at Sakubva Beit Hall. There curtain comes down in the evening with a awards dinner at the Golden Peacock Hotel where local authorities will receive special recognition certificates as committed members. Prize giving for golfer will also take place at the same event.

The Minister of Local Government as well as other dignitaries in the Manicaland Province are expected to attend.
