UCAZ has established a Centenary Celebrations Organising Committee (CCOC) which will spearhead activities to mark the attainment of 100 years by the Association. The committee is chaired by the First Vice President of UCAZ Councillor Solomon Mguni who is the Mayor of Bulawayo.

The committee is made up of representatives of Mayors and officers forums namely, Town Clerks, Finance Directors, Chamber Secretaries, Housing Directors, Health Directors and Engineers. The CCOC has since set up three subcommittees of Resource Mobilisation and Fundraising, Media Liaison and Publicity and finally the Events Management.

Some of the planned activities include the production of a documentary, sports events such as a marathon, golf, soccer and netball tournament. A conference will bring the curtain down on the celebrations in May this year.

Commenting on his appointment as the chairperson of the CCOC Mayor Mguni said that it was an honor and privilege for the City of Bulawayo and for him in his personal capacity to be chairing the Committee for the celebrations.

“The 100-year anniversary of UCAZ is indeed a proud moment to the local government fraternity as we celebrate excellency and resilience under the theme ‘UCAZ @100: Celebrating Excellence and Resilience’,” said Mayor Mguni.

Cllr Mguni added that the role of residents and sister associations in the region and beyond as well as development partners in the celebrations could not be overemphasized.

“We must leverage on this strong partnership to build strong and resilient institutions that answer to the needs of our people,” he said
