All is set for the official launch of the Chambuta National Children’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Centre in Chiredzi on Monday the 25th of October 2021.
The First lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa through the Angel of Hope Foundation and in conjunction with the Department of Social Welfare embarked on a mission to turn the former Chambuta Refugee Camp in Chiredzi into a home for disadvantaged children, especially those living and working in the streets throughout the country.
The Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) has been part of this philanthropic project with its members adopting houses that they went on to renovate. In addition to renovating the houses at Chambuta, the members also agreed to carry out fundraising activities like the charity golf tournament which was held in December 2020 in Victoria Falls which raised a massive amount of about ZWL3million which would benefit the disadvantaged children in the rehabilitation center.
A fundraising committee has since been established and it comprises of Communications officers of Gweru, Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and is chaired by the UCAZ 1st Vice President and Mayor of Mutare, His Worship, Clr Blessing Tandi.
The First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa will officially open the Chambuta National Children’s Rehabilitation Center. The event will be attended by all Mayors/Chairpersons, Town Clerks, Directors of Housing, members of the Chambuta Development Fund Board of Trustees, officials from the Department of Social Welfare, and the office of the Minister of State for Masvingo Province.
